Let Jack Frost into your home to add his winter wonderland magic to your Holiday
celebration décor. Crystallized with mystical icicle effects plain glass vases are
transformed in just minutes into wondrous luminaries using artificial frost. A bubbly
pattern is created on plain tall glass vases by using self-adhesive vinyl circles to give
the Holiday-toasting festivity a fun retro glow. For a swanky touch iridescent pillar
candles are added to a bed of instant decorative snow that lines the frosted creations.

(Materials for this project are available at arts, craft and above-mentioned
stores.)
Preparing the glass vases; In order to prepare the glass surface, clean the glass
vases with soap and water to remove any oil, grease or finger prints. Use a circle
template and pencil, to draw two dozen circles in assorted sizes onto the paper
backing of the adhesive vinyl. Cut the circles out using scissors. If you have a rotary
scissor cutter system, simply place the adhesive vinyl directly on the cutting mat to
cut out circles in different sizes. To make it super easy you can also use pre-cut peel
and stick paper sticker shapes.
Peel the backing from the circle shapes and apply them randomly or to create a
specific pattern around the surface of the glass vases. Press each circle as you
position them, this will secure the shapes to the glass surface and remove any
bubbles or puckering. Repeat this process for each additional shape. To alter your
design the circles can be peeled off and reposition. After the frost application the
circle mask-off areas which will remain clear, thus create an interesting glow.
Frosting the vases: Shake the Santa® Ice Crystals can well before using. For best
results use this product at room temperature. Spray an even wet coat in a continuous
motion all around the vase, working on one vase at a time. The spray goes on wet
and clear when applied, the ice crystals will form within minutes.
Once the vases are completely dry to the touch, carefully peel off the shapes. Use
cotton swabs dipped in rubbing alcohol or soapy warm water to clean up around the
circle edges if needed.
To make the decorative snow, follow the packaging directions. In a bowl add 1
tablespoon of instant decorative snow per 32 oz. of water and stir until desired
consistency is achieved. Add a few decorative accents to the snow if desired such as
disk or shaped sequins, sparkles and coloured glass bead nuggets or a few
cranberries or pebble stones. Use a spoon to scoop the decorative snow into the
frosted vases. Place a pillar candle at the center and steady it.
To further enhance the sparkling table decor place a string of tiny lights intertwine in
a beaded garland along side of the vases or around the arrangement. Garnish the
presentation with silver mesh filaments and large ornamental balls. Fresh greenery
and pine cones can also be incorporated. Additional elements can be incorporated to
achieve a particular style from modern chic to rustic country.
Artificial frosted and snow finishes can also be applied to windows, mirrors, platters
and other assorted glass surfaces to create a truly sublime celebratory atmosphere.
After the party the clean up is super easy, simply wash with warm water and your
vases and glass items can be reconfigured for a new season or décor theme. A damp
cloth or glass cleaner can also be used to remove the frosted medium.
Variations: Create a unique centerpiece by utilizing glass items and containers
around your home. Large glass bowls or fish bowls make spectacular centerpieces
with floating candles.
Frosted luminaries are just as stunning in assorted sizes. Make groupings of small
frosted votives to garnish a mantel, a window ledge, a coffee table or a console.
Frosted plain bottles with berry sprigs or silver branches make great minimalist style
décor accents.
Create your own personalized design using different shapes of adhesive vinyl or
paper stickers, such as squares or stars. For a sleek presentation stripe it up with
various width of painter’s tape. Place stripes horizontally or vertically around the
vases, or make a plaid or chequered pattern.
Tips to further decorate with a touch of the outdoors: Keep the snow fresh by
spraying it with water occasionally. To colour coordinate the snow with your
arrangement for a specific theme simply add droops of food colouring to the water
while mixing the snow. Clear gelatine crystals can be used as a substitute for the
instant snow. Stencils can also be used to apply Santa® Ice Crystals and Santa®
Snow designs to mirrors, assorted glass items and windows.
Keep a few extra cans of Santa® Ice Crystals, to have on hand for other winter dinner
parties, special occasions or for a romantic Valentine dinner décor. Imagine how
crystal frosted luminaries would look on a deck on a hot summer night, pretty cool!
